This Nissan sedan was codenamed L02B and it is based on the same ‘V’ platform as that of its hatch car Nissan Micra. Nissan Sunny was launched on September 20, 2011 in petrol engine option only and the company has launched two new diesel variants on 12th December, 2011. In total there are three variants of Nissan Sunny petrol and two diesel variants. Nissan Sunny is manufactured at the Nissan-Renault plant in Chennai where Nissan Micra is produced for India and exported to other countries. Nissan Sunny petrol is powered by a 1.5 litre 4 cylinders and 16 valves petrol engine that produces 100 PS of maximum power. The engine produces around 134 Nm of torque like other 1.5 litre powertrains. With this engine configuration and a decent price tag, Nissan Sunny is in competition with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Indigo Manza, Ford Fiesta. The other powertrain in two variants namely XL and XV is also fuelled by diesel. Both these diesel variants are powered by a modern 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder K9K engine that churns out 86PS of power @ 3750 rpm and a maximum torque of 200 Nm @ 2000 rpm. Both petrol and diesel engines are affixed with a 5 speed manual gearbox. Apparently, K9K Diesel engine has debuted in Sunny throughout the world.
The new sedan car in Indian auto market Nissan Sunny has shining exterior and eye-catching interior. The exterior of Nissan Sunny looks aggressive with larger headlamps, cute smiling chrome grille, separate fog lamp cluster and lower air intake. The new Nissan Sunny Petrol Special Edition is priced at just Rs. 8.60 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi), which is fairly decent. This Special Edition sedan comes with some minor cosmetic tweaks that include chrome plated trunk detailing, a boot lid spoiler, body colored side moldings and so on. With this, the look of this premium sedan has been improved, which will surely grab the attention of the car enthusiasts. It comes with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine that is currently performing duties for the rest of petrol Nissan Sunny variants.

  • Nissan Sunny Diesel XL
    It is powered by a K9K, 4 Cylinder diesel engine of 1461 cc displacement which can belt out 86 Ps of maximum power and 200 Nm of max torque. This variant is base diesel model and is equipped with steel wheels with a tyre size of 185/70 R14. The variant is lighter and measures 1092 kg in total kerb weight.
  • Nissan Sunny Diesel XV
    This is the top-end diesel model powered by the same engine as used in base version. However, alloy wheels, electric folding ORVMs, chrome on inside door handles, temperature display, door trim fabric, armrest finish, intelligent key with push button start and front fog lamps are the add-on features as compared to the base model in this range. The total kerb weight is maximum among all five measuring 1097 kg and the tyre size is 185/65 R15.

It is the first time Sunny is offered anywhere in the world with a K9K Diesel engine.     As far as the acceleration of the Nissan Sunny is concerned, the sedan ensures positive response and wouldn't let you down for sure, as it is loaded with refined 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder engine. The powertrain promises highest power of 100 PS and a max torque of 134 Nm. The engine output is transmitted through a five speed manual gearbox. It does 175kmph and sprints from still to 100 kmph speed in 15.8 secs .

    Nissan Sunny is equipped with most common safety features since it is an entry level sedan. However, both active and passive safety features can be seen in Nissan Sunny. The safety provision includes front dual airbags, ABS  with EBD and brake assist, front disc brake, halogen headlamps, front fog lamps , impact absorbing body, all seat belts, engine  immobilizer, keyless entry, front and side impact beams, central locking, child safety locks, day and night inside rear view mirror, etc. Easy and responsive handling of the Sunny is not a concern as it is coupled with power steering, wider wheelbase, aerodynamic design, etc. The Sunny CVT comes only on the XL variant for the time being, and it doesn’t get the alloys of the XV. Apart from this, everything else on the outside remains the same. The only visual differentiator between the Sunny manual and the CVT is the XTronic CVT badge, that the Sunny wears it at the rear, below the XL badge, just like the Renault Scala. The Scala and the Sunny are based on the same platform and the two have some differentiating factors only in cosmetic design.
